Marine Stage Gangways
Marine Stage Gangways are commonly referred to as:
- SHALA (Shallow Angle – less than 30 degrees)
- SALA (Steep Angle – Between 30 degrees and 50 degrees)
- Type A (Long Range, steep angle, 12m – 30m Length)
- Type C (Short range, steep angle, 1m – 9m length)
Stage Gangways are either manoeuvred by hand or placed into position by a crane or davit. They provide secure access from the dockside to the vessel using either a ridged step for shallow angle egress, or a marine tread for steep angles. The handrails and stanchion assemblies can be either rope or aluminium which can be removed for compact stowage.
Generally, these gangways are kept on the quay side and used to bridge visiting vessels. However, some of the simpler and smaller versions are also stored on board to give greater flexibility and choice when visiting ports.
The Stage gangways can be supplied as a standard design with a length of the clients choosing, or custom designed and fabricated to meet a particular requirement. Common to all types of stage gangways is the width of 24″ (600mm), hooks and rollers, lifting eyes and anti-slip walk surface. They are manufactured from anodised marine grade aluminium.
Optional turn-table platforms are available for easy articulation away from the vessel and centre transport wheels for ease of movement on the jetty.
